Cymax : Tech-Oriented Convention Complex
This project made the better half of my year during 2016, where I was subjected to the cold prying hands of Thesis and an unavoidable salvo of Energy drinks, fast food deliveries at 3 AM, and occasionally, tears.

So It is with bizarre pride and honor to present my Architectural Thesis (a prerequisite to attain my degree)

CYMAX : A Tech-Innovation Convention Launchpad

My Architectural Thesis originally began as an idea of holding Video game and Pop Culture conventions within the Philippines. as my research progressed into the more hard hitting issues with the Philippines though, the source idea changed into an amorphous construct that could house these events, but also provide a space wherein
​
Technological startups and businesses could prosper. a bulk of the plans were benchmarked from existing Startup models in Silicon Valley, innovation hubs that are frequently starred on Archdaily, and a few key Plans that came to fruition after hours of watching TEDtalks, Youtube flythroughs, and VR tours of gaming headquarters offices.
The design concept for the Tech-Innovation Convention Launchpad revolves around "Digital Ethereal", the intangible digital phenomenon that shape the current generation's lifestyle. these phenomenon, (wireless-Internet, digital networks, radio signals) is at it's core, ideas that reach out through a free-form medium. with that said, "Digital Ethereal" becomes a Medium upon which ripples varying ideas.

Visualizing this abstract form is lifted from a research by David J Pearson in Amsterdam that states.

"Assuming a constant bandwidth, distance is significantly suppressed. Whether I am near you physically or not does not matter. What matters is that we share a common access to a level of information so that we may collaborate."
The Merging of two ideas from different places, manifests itself via a fold, a notion of change within a medium. a symbolism of ideas, and people coming together.
Utilizing the Concept transforms the project into a dynamic Medium, wherein the architecture [within the convention complex] molds itself to suit the needs of its users, [Spiralift] and can project a unique imprint of the event to its facade (Both kinetic and Multimedia), creating a unique feel to any event the convention center is holding.

Much like the internet, the innovation hub is interpeted through democratic open-work areashub and the recurring glass partitions in-between, symbolizing transparency and promotes sharing of ideas and concepts to build a solid foundation for startups and young entrepreneurs
The Concept also reflects through the intended zoning of the innovation hub, beginning at a grounded level to symbolize an initial idea, growing through a radial loop of progress and collaboration until it reaches maturity, culminating into a designated space for startup companies who have established their identity, ready to share and collaborate with other businesses through the convention center.

The Open work and community innovation hub, the Configurable Dynamic Facade and exhibition center, are what create my thesis. this is what Cymax stands for, the key towards the future in 3 key processes, to Innovate, To Create, and to Participate.
